So why are these bearings so awesome? Legend has it that the pourous shield on the outside of the bearing allows particles to escape from the bearing races. That's the one thing about skate bearings is that they are always in a dirty environment. They get all sorts of junk trapped inside the bearing parts which eventually leads to bearing destruction.
These bearings must also be made extremely well to handle regular skateboarding loads. From what it sounds like, these bearings not only clean themselves, they also are very durable.
