Recently, I went to Greenhouse to buy a set of Element Thriftwood bearings. These were very cheap, and I was shocked at the amazing quality of them. They fit on every kind of wheel snuggly, as my friend Sam and I tested. They're also amazingly durable, after weeks and weeks of slides and what-nots, they have still shown the same quality as when I got them. I didn't have to oil them, as they don't require any. They are amazing, and I recommend getting some, if not for extras.
Another point that I was pleased with was the durability, as mentioned before. I didn't need to get replacement parts, because the design held together very well. Seeing as these were on the cheaper side, one would just pick up another set afterwards. The only downside is the performance, somewhat. These bearings last for a long time, but others (such as Reds or Speed Demons) are better quality, for a higher price. These bearings are great for a back-up set, or for the new skater that doesn't want to break his (or her) bank on making a board. You can spend a little more, and get Blue Angels Bearings. First off, it must be said that these are ABEC 7 bearings which is pretty much as highly rated as bearings get for skateboards. I was on ABEC 3 Black Panthers, a well known brand of bearings before I put these on and its a huge difference between the two. The price between the Black Panthers and these is very similar but the quality is very far apart. These ABEC 7's are insane at keeping you rolling. If you can stomp your tricks clean I don't see a reason why you would ever need to push in the middle of a run again. The color is pretty sweet too, the blue shields (which are non-removable) look really great. These bearings as I just said, do not have removable shields but I think its for the better. My Black Panthers had removable shields and I found that they popped out and got deformed and just contributed to making them worse, so it's not really a bad thing that these come with non-removable shields.
