The Fastest Skateboarder in the World
If I recall correctly, the owner of Oust bearings told me that the fastest downhill speed was achieved on a set of Oust bearings. I need to call
him up and find out what that speed was and who did it. After researching who is the fastest skateboarder thus far, here is what I found:
Henry Hester - was clocked at 57 miles per hour in the 1970s at Signal Hill. That's pretty damn fast. I would never want to be on a board
going that fast - road rash for sure!
Jackie Smith - Hit 59.27 miles per hour at Signal Hill on June 11, 1978. Of course this skateboard was more like a super aerodynamic car that
had no motor.
Gary Hardwick reached 63 miles per hour in 1998. This race occured at Fountain Hills, Arizona on September 26, 1998. The actual clocked speed
was 62.55 mph.
I would consider street luge to be skateboarding as well, and one site says the current speed record for street luge is 81 miles per hour. That obviously
beats the 62.55 mph that Gary Hardwick achieved in 1998.
Ironically the Guinness book of world records website does not list this feat. Instead they list the longest skateboard ever made (who cares?) and
the most frontside ollies ever done on a ramp. You would think this would be an obivous record people would want recorded. Hell, they have
speed races and luge races all the time right?
